Sidney County Fair Opens With Wide Ranging Exhibits

Cheyenne county fair opens with a $4,000 program running through Friday. Races start Wednesday for three days at 2 PM. Friday is children's day with holiday from schools. Exhibits include school work, new exhibition building, hog pavilion, autos and farm implements, and booths. Concessions and rides promise universal entertainment.

Sidney to beautify two main streets with new curbing

Ericson and Daniel win the bid for 4,000 feet of curb along Illinois Street from Eighth Avenue to the railroad crossing and from 14th to 17th Avenue as the city council plans lighting and beautification. Bids ranged from 20 to 30 cents per foot, with Ericson and Daniel submitting straight and circular curb at 20 cents. (Continue on page 8)

Cheyenne County Wins Big at Nebraska State Exhibition

Cheyenne County earns 11 of 24 wheat prizes at the Nebraska state fair, taking first in three divisions and multiple placings in spring and winter wheat, durum, oats, potatoes, and dent corn. The county’s collective score totaled 453 with cash prizes totaling $321.45.

Chrysler Driver Pursues 106 Hour Nonstop Endurance Test

Fred E. Smith drives a Chrysler 65 sedan from a Saturday start, aiming to set a world record for high gear non stop endurance. He has completed 55 hours and endured only one puncture after passing through Sidney, with no engine trouble, as dealers across Potter, Kimball, Gering, Scottsbluff, Bayard, Bridgeport, Dalton, Gurley, Lodge Pole, Chappell and Sidney back the stunt. If successful, the 106 hour grind ends at the fairgrounds with immediate rest and exhibition of the car.

Howell Discusses Postigal Issues In Sidney Speech

Senator R B Howell opened his campaign in Sidney with a broad attack on Tammany hall and Governor Smith, arguing the party machines shaped the New York vote in 1924. He warned of risks to repeal of the 18th Amendment, framed by farm issues and presidential candidates, and noted possible nullification danger if Smith won. A separate Friday storm dumped five inches of moisture, damaging tracks and bridges near Trumbull and between Bostwick and Lester.

City 15 to Extend Sewer System for South Side

City council opened bids for sewer extension south of the Burlington tracks and part of the Callahan addition. Five bids ranged from 7429.76 to 5487.60, Yant Construction Co of Omaha lowest and awarded. The project covers 1080 ft of 8 in pipe, 6770 ft of 6 in pipe, 23 manholes. rock removal adds 5.00 per cubic yard for Yant. Mayor Schroeder said funds exist in treasury, no bonds needed.

Dalton man reports good yield of oats

Al Morrow of near Dalton reports a generous oats harvest from a 20 acre field. He measured 1840 bushels threshed, using a 36 pound bushel instead of 32. Louie Volkert spent seven hours threshing the crop on land owned by Morrow and John Rathbun.

Famous billiard artist entertains Sidney cue fans

George E. Spears internationally famed billiard performer and world record holder demonstrated at the Limodynes pool hall before a large audience last night. Recognized as the best straight rail billiardist in the country, he has a consecutive run record over 5000 and engaged several local men during the demonstration showing fancy shooting.

Sidney stores to close three afternoons during the fair

Cheyenne County fair board backed movement leading Sidney businesses to close Wednesday Thursday and Friday afternoons from 1 to 4 30 to let employees visit the fair and boost attendance. Stores will reopen at 4 30 to accommodate shoppers.
