Potter-Dix Days Parade Highlights 1973 Celebration
The Potter-Dix Days parade drew hundreds along Main Street as the Dix-Potter football game ended with Dix winning 28-14. Queens Patty Southard of Dix and Gina Wickhorst of Potter were crowned, and exhibits, a free barbecue, and a large parade with 40 entries followed. Top awards went to United Methodist Potter and various youth groups. flower show honors were won by Dix and Potter participants.

A weekend electrical storm hit Kimball bringing down power lines and triggering small fires. Firefighters faced a large blaze at an oil tank battery nine miles northeast, with at least one tank exploding. Early Sunday a restaurant fire at Dog and Suds Drive-In caused about $10,000 in damage.

Sidney Receives Grant For Senior Citizen Bus Program
The City of Sidney aims to launch senior transportation in late November after a $10 995 grant from the Nebraska Commission on Aging covering 75 percent of a 14 607 program cost. City Manager Ed Prince notes delays in bus availability may push start date and plans include door to door service and possible trips to Cheyenne County communities.

Sidney Council Considers Paving Districts and Grants

Handicapped Children Eligible For Head Start
Panhandle Head Start programs have room for handicapped children whose families meet criteria. Applications are now being accepted. The executive director says priority is being given to services for handicapped children and inclusion in an integrated setting. Nationally at least 10 percent of enrollment is reserved for mentally retarded and other disabled children.

I 80 Work Begins South of Sidney and West Spur
The Department of Roads started grading culverts and fence work on Interstate 80 south of Sidney and on the West Sidney Spur. The project runs 3.7 miles northwesterly from just south of Sidney with a $1,654,003 contract awarded to Missouri Valley Construction Co. of Grand Island. Financed by the department with allocated federal funds. Completion is estimated for July 7, 1974. Gary Holly of Sidney is the project manager.

Wes Stevens Site Earns National Historic Place Status
Congressman Dave Martin announce s the Wes Stevens Site near Potter in Cheyenne County has been nominated by the Nebraska State Historical Society and entered in the National Register of Historic Places. The site shows Indian encampment evidence including tipi rings and rock circles kept intact after lodge removal.

Garden Club convention in Sidney honors awards and scholarship
About 150 Nebraska garden clubs members attended the Federated Garden Clubs of Nebraska convention in Sidney over the weekend with displays and sessions. An awards banquet recognized leaders, including a $2680 scholarship to Alfredo Castro of Scottsbluff, who plans a nursery after Curtis School graduation, and conservation awards to local clubs.
