New Wheat Seeding Underway in Cheyenne County
Cheyenne County farmers push winter wheat planting as September approaches. Seeding runs ahead on many farms with moisture aiding germination, though some areas await rain. Despite a 12 percent acres cutback under price support, 1970 wheat seeding may match last year as farmers overplant to ensure compliance. County Extension Agent Ivan Liljegren says a general rain would help, but the forecast calls for a warm dry September.
