Cheyenne County Agricultural Society organizes the county fair next week with three racing days. Programs list purses from 15 to 80 dollars for trotting and running events on Wednesday Thursday and Friday. Entries include three twenty trotting, pony dash, quarter mile heats, and a novelty one mile race among others.
A Gay and merry Indies party met Friday afternoon at Mrs. fr. McLernon’s home to meet Miss Whitehead and enjoy a varied program. Performances included vocal solos recitations and a comic reading followed by a bountiful dining room feast. About fifty invitations issued and praise earned by Mrs. McLernon as hostess.
A band of about seven thousand horses was bought on a ranch in Umatilla county by the Portland Horse-Meat Canning Company at 3 dollars per head. About 300 were sent on to Portland after the sale. The agent says hides, manes, and tails will bring 2.50 each, leaving carcasses for profit, while officials offer vague claims about uses from fertilizer to grease and canned steaks.
