Sidney woman cleans up and stays active through trash walks
Esther White of Sidney treks a half mile patrol area and her home vicinity every other day to pick up trash. The 60 year old Cheyenne County resident says the routine keeps her legs moving after a fall years ago and has helped her lose about 30 pounds. Cans are recycled by a neighbor boy Glenn Morrison, with full cans sometimes given to friends and occasional finds of money or clothing donated to others.

Dry August Leaves Panhandle Wheat Growers Waiting For Rain
August proved very dry across the southern Panhandle with totals varying by location. High Plains Ag Lab near Sidney logged 2.02 inches while Dor Dey Ermand in Dalton measured 0.66 and Sidney airport noted 0.50. Normal August in Sidney is 1.75 inches. Farmers report bone dry summer fallow as the 1977 wheat seeding nears, and moisture is crucial to start the crop. The High Plains Ag Lab recorded 8.92 inches for 1976, below 11.87 inches through August of 1975 and under the 14.31-inch normal. September normally brings 1.35 inches in Sidney.
