Weaver Will Not Act To Fill Legislative Vacancies
Nebraska governor George A. Weaver will not call special elections to fill two legislative vacancies created by resignations of Senator Dwight P. Griswold and Representative W H McGaffin. He cites lack of constitutional authority to appoint between sessions unless a special session is called, leaving the choice to voters if a special election is ordered. Griswold resigned August 27 to pursue Legion duties. McGaffin resigned mid July and was replaced as district court clerk by the Butler county board. Republican and Democrat party control remains unchanged in the legislature.
