Mellons tax plan aims at large relief and reforms
The House Ways and Means Committee heard Secretary Mellon outline safe income tax cuts including a broad reduction of overall taxes from 250 to 300 million dollars. Proposals span lower normal taxes, reduced surtaxes, elimination of the earned income deduction, repeal of the gift tax, and retention of several minor levies while expanding the tax appeals board. Mellon projected a 200 to 300 million dollar surplus by July 1, 1926, justifying the tax relief.
