Start Controls In The Garden Start Controls In The Garden
Smart gardeners will start 1967 insect and disease control now. A fall prevention and control program to catch insects and diseases that over winter in stalks, weeds and other garden debris is recommended. Clean up and remove the remains of old plants from fields and gardens. Burn them or put them on a compost pile. If the compost is not to be used until the plant materials have decayed. Treat compost piles with a Soil fungicide or fumigant. If crop residue is not removed, chop or disc it up as soon as possible. Follow this by clean plowing to break the residue down quickly and reduce disease carryover. Plan three to four year rotations to avoid following same-disease crops.
