Snow Flurries Prompt Moisture Relief Across Panhandle
Snow flurries and cold air swept the panhandle Tuesday into Wednesday, bringing light moisture and drifting snow across Sidney and surrounding counties. The weather disrupted air mail and rail operations, with temperatures near 12 degrees and winds easing by night. The blast followed unseasonal patterns, prompting relief needs as charitable aid calls rose and a Minneapolis loan office announced a federal 25 percent loan-payback option for 1932 crops, guiding borrowers on potential extensions and lien requirements for 1933 crops.

County Board Drops Ballot Issue on County Agent
Remonstrators failed to file enough valid signatures to trigger a vote on abolishing the county agent's office. The county board ruled that the petition lacked the required one eighth majority, effectively dropping the issue. County Agent Willey remained silent while noting the drive targeted the farm bureau rather than himself. Farmers who circulated the petition argued tax funding for the office should be reduced amid broader budget cuts.

No More Wheat Seeding On South Table This Year
Sidney farmers say few neighbors will sow winter wheat late in the season due to dry ground and poor crop prospects. Snow adds slight moisture but not enough for plowing, while winter wheat planted earlier proceeds normally. Cheyenne county wheat acreage may drop over 50 percent from 1930, with abandonment likely heavier than last year unless prices rise. Some farmers could profit at 50 cents a bushel but debt loads keep wheat unprofitable. Local buyers expect higher prices for eggs and bread if costs above farm gate rise to the farmer.
