National Wheat Institute Unveils Plan To USDA
The National Wheat Institute board presented a written plan of operations to Clayton Yeutter of the USDA Consumer and Marketing Service in Washington. The plan covers using 2 million in producer funds for a national wheat research and promotion program and outlines administrative steps and a two phase study to evaluate existing projects and new proposals. The USDA has 60 days to act, after which the institute would contract the study and pursue further wheat uses including potential rubber industry applications. The institute was formed in 1970 and signed an agreement with USDA in 1971 to launch the program upon approval and funding authorization.
