Cost of Beef Calves Cut by Use of Right Bull
A U S department of agriculture guide says a strong herd bull lowers costs per pound. Calves from purebreds weigh about 125 pounds more at one year and fetch about 2 cents extra as stockers. Two-year-olds gain roughly 200 pounds and sell for more, with feed costs similar in year one. The key factor is quality and care of the bull, including exercise and seasonally adjusted feeding. Sugar Beet Factory Likely in Lodge Pole Valley
J C Wood and Walter C PDX say irrigation land in Lodge Pole valley between Kimball and Chappell supports sugar beets and could support a beet sugar factory. Local ranchmen hold land, but growing beets could raise values and spur new towns if investors and financiers back the idea. Similar talks occurred in the north river country with Broadwater, and new factories are planned at Lyman Minatare and Torrington this year.
