Ruth Elder Completes Ocean Flight to Europe

Ruth Elder, first woman to cross the ocean in a plane, landed near Rotterdam Holland after leaving New York Tuesday. Reports say the Stinson Detroiter went off course but she and pilot Haldeman corrected and reached Paris safely, with earlier scenes of uncertainty over weather and visibility.

Final Report Dates Set for Boys and Girls Club Contest

Final report sheets have been sent to the reporters taking part in the summer news writing contest sponsored by the Sidney papers. Winners, judged by a committee including Mr Willey, will be announced after November. The top entrant earns travel to Lincoln and expenses to compete in the state club news writing contest during club week in June. Seven stories were written for every ten meetings this summer across Nebraska clubs.

County Superintendent Visits Cheyenne County Schools

County Superintendent Gertrude M. Nelson plans official visits to Cheyenne County schools for several weeks. She will be in her office only on Tuesdays and Saturdays during the visiting period, directing county business as usual on those days.

Bonham Wins Winchester Gun for Heading Sales Campaign

C. W. Bonham a driver agent for Western Nebraska Oil company wins a Winchester shotgun from Manager Robineau for leading 19 salesmen in August sales of oil and gasoline. Results of the contest held last month are not yet announced.

Grain Dealers assail McNary Haugen and Fess bills

Charles Quinn of Toledo, secretary treasurer of the Grain Dealers association, told 2,000 delegates at Omaha during the 32nd annual convention that the present grain distribution system is sound and attacked McNary Haugen and Fess bills as politically inspired. He argued many lawmakers voted to embarrass President Coolidge or force a veto, not on their merits.

Aged Sidney Resident Dies After Illness

John Jorgen Rasmussen longtime Sidney resident died Wednesday night at 11 45 after a brief pneumonia illness. Born Lopland Island Denmark he was about 69. Corn Crop Fully Matured Across Nebraska Counties

Nebraska crop data show 86 percent of corn mature by October 1 with seven percent damaged by frost and seven percent still ripening. Forecasts: 268 million bushels produced, about 33 bushels per acre, oats at 28.2 bushels. Reports from farmers, grain dealers, and bankers support strong yields statewide.

Conference of Lutheran Synod to Meet Next Week

The western conference of the Evangelical Lutheran Synod of Nebraska will meet at Trinity Lutheran church in this city on Thursday and Friday October 21 and 22 with Rev W T Kahse in charge. Attendees include prominent Nebraska dignitaries and visiting pastors. After Thursday arrivals a 12:30 dinner will be served, followed by Holy Communion at 1:30 led by Rev Anspach and an address by Rev Dr Guss at 3.00. Dr Kahse will report on the pension campaign at 3:30, a banquet at 6:30, and an eight o'clock service with Dr C J Rockey. Friday opens with devotional service and finance talks led by Mr Hendy.

Western Nebraska Oil to Build New Bulk Plant in Sidney

Western Nebraska Oil Company plans a bulk lubricating oil plant near its Union Pacific station in Sidney. A 100 by 150 foot plot will house 5200 gallon tanks with space for six more, a barreling and steam plant, repair shop, trucks garage, and a modern office. Initial cost exceeds 15000 dollars as shipments switch to tank cars from Pennsylvania refineries. The firm operates branches across western Nebraska and specializes in Powertube oils and Powerine gasoline.

Land fraud ring arrests over forged Nebraska deeds

Four men led an elaborate land sales scheme using forged deeds and abstracts to sell Western Nebraska land. The group obtained blanks, forged deeds, and used fake notaries to sell properties to innocent buyers, with over 200000 dollars in forged documents found. They faced federal charges and bonds set at 5000 dollars each.
