Fourth Liberty Loan Backers Rally in Cheyenne County

A Liberty Loan meeting at the District Court room drew a large crowd as Robert A. Barlow chaired the session. Traveler Dies After Being Taken From Train

A man identified as Lawler Hetherington, 34, was removed from No. 4 Monday evening suffering severe illness. He died shortly after at the Pacific house. He had tuberculosis and was en route to LaSalle, Illinois, his brother Michael Hetherington escorted the body home. Joe Fine Makes Supreme Sacrifice in Service

The city mourns Joe Fine a Sidney boy and early volunteer for the army who died Sunday at League Island Hospital Philadelphia of pneumonia He served as a second class fireman aboard the USs Missouri and was a member of the Ilks and the Railway Trainmen He was the son of Mr and Mrs Louis Fine of Denver and brother of Leon Sam and Dave Fine and Mrs Fish man of this city His two brothers in service Sam of this prince and Isadore of Denver Leon received word that the body would depart for Denver on Tuesday with arrival time uncertain More details will be reported next week.

Three Fires Destroys O Kane Home on Lincoln Highway

The O Kane house on Lincoln Highway burned three times Friday night and early morning. Firefighters extinguished flames each time, but the barn had burned earlier and the house was nearly ruined again before final total destruction. A persistent, mysterious destroying element seems evident in the sequence.

Knights Celebrate New Additions at St Patrick and Tobin Hall

Sunday marked a large class initiation into the Knights of Columbus with Mass at St Patrick's, a long afternoon ceremony at the Knights Hall, and a banquet at the Tobin Opera House. Speakers included Reverend Anton Tink, J J Cunningham, James Keefe, J W Guthrie, and J McIntosh. Mayor Uptegrove and council members Shipman and Hellwig attended. The program featured a United War Camp segment, a vocal solo by Josephine Simones with Evelyn Doran at the piano, and a formal banquet served by church ladies.

A September 26 1918 gathering at the Court House re organized the Sidney Home Guards. W D Miles chaired. Leon Fine was secretary. Officers elected by ballot were Captain Liebendorfer First Lieut Gould Second Lieut Daniels. Committees on notify arming equipment and financial report were formed. Meeting adjourned at 9 30 p m with strong enthusiasm.

Big Masonic Day Draws Hastings Masons

Thirty Scottish Rite Masons from Hastings Nebraska spent a Thursday in this city and conferred degrees from the 4th to the 14th on a class of fifty. The opera house was requisitioned for the event. Work lasted from 9 a.m. to evening and ended with a banquet hosted by the Ladies of the Christian Church in the Joseph Daniels home. Degree recipients came from Kimball Dix Potter Sidney Lodgepole Chappell Dalton Gurley Oshkosh and North Platte.
