Taft reception draws large crowd in Sidney

Taft strode into Sidney Friday to a roaring, partisan welcome as Kinkaid introduced him. The crowd waved 500 flags while Taft outlined his record and denied anti working man charges. Supporters praised Roosevelt era policies with Taft as leader.

Pink tea showcases at Harper and Wrights store event

A professional demonstration of a malleable iron range was staged as a pink tea at Harper and Wrights. Biscuits baked in three minutes and drip coffee were served to callers, drawing a large crowd and promising quick sales if the range performs well. Sheriff McDaniel traveled to Lincoln to transfer a convict to the penitentiary and an inmate to the insane asylum.

Water system work on Rose street ditcher at work

A giant ditcher operates on Rose street under Grant Harper’s contract. The machine digs a six foot deep, twenty foot diameter well with precise, rapid progress. A large crew works across the water project, promising public baths and improved city supply.

Frigid Frost Hits Local Area With Cold Weekend

A heavy frost settled over the locality last Friday night and recurred Saturday night. Ice about a quarter inch thick formed on water tanks, damaging unprotected garden crops and corn in hail districts. Thirty housewives prepared by early frost plans. a light snow fell Saturday morning.

Death of Willie Brauer in German settlement

Willie Brauer died at his father's home last Friday September 25 after four years of ill health from typhoid fever. Interment was at the German Lutheran church cemetery with a visiting minister from Cheyenne due to the regular pastor being unwell. He was twenty years and five months old. Relatives express sympathy as several local women prepare to attend a Grand Lodge convention in Lincoln. The Grand Lodge notes a strong membership rise and solid finances.

Lectures New Season Tickets Offered At School House

The note urges purchase of season tickets for a five event course with adult price 1.75 and children 1. Tickets include reserved seating for all five lectures. Tickets go on sale at the post office store on Saturday October 10 at 8 am.

Railroad Notes from Cheyenne and North Platte

Supt Anderson and Master Mechanic William Niland of Cheyenne rode through on No 4 in private car 010. Peter Polis spent a few days in Cheyenne this week. Engine 115 required a frame repair at the shops, while engine 1834 moved the van for several days. Chas Ell brought the Taft special from North Platte and WM McQuire with engine 118 hauled it to Cheyenne. Conductor William A Blood with wife and baby were on No 4 en route to Omaha to see Akasar-ben. Engineer Frank Stewart takes a layoff and visited his parents in Oklahoma. Mrs Pitzer of the Pacific hotel enjoys a visit from her brother for a few days. HY Williams improves and will rejoin his work at North Platte soon.
