Sidney and Chappell leaders form a Sidney Chappell council to share office costs, hold joint camps, courts of honor, and field days. Each town funds its part time field executive, with $1000 sought for Sidney and $400 for Chappell. Budget outlines salaries, troop funds, summer projects, and office expenses as the drive starts December 15.

Dalton Stockyards Case to be Tried in District Court

County court was called to take up a complaint filed by Henry Lane against Hans Anderson over maintenance of stock yards in Dalton city limits. Claimed stockyards in the residence section are unsanitary and a menace to the community. Case moved from county to district court with several Dalton residents noted as witnesses.

Womans Club Benefit At U S A Theatre Draws Large Crowd

A large audience attended the Womans club benefit at the U S A Theatre last Friday for The Little Shepherd of Kingdom Come. Illness forced substitutions in musical numbers but solos by Sidney’s boy soloists Franklin Barger and Donald Shipman, baritone Robert Harper, and performances by Fern Riggs Jeannette Larson Hester Null complemented the screen feature and dancing sketches, with strong patronage and appreciation.

Gas tax hike eyed by civic groups in Omaha meeting

Business leaders from over a dozen Nebraska towns met in Omaha at the invitation of the Omaha chamber of commerce to back a four cent gas tax all to the state highway department and to direct auto registration revenue to counties for graveling farm to market roads. They urged a six member non political state highway commission and backed continuation as a major Nebraska road program. The plan mirrors the Nebraska Good Roads Association proposal adopted at Alliance and calls for county bond options for paved roads while expanding federal aid matching funds.

Evangelist Warren C Anderson Involved in Hog Collision

Warren C Anderson, soloist at recent evangelistic meetings at the Christian church, was involved in a hog collision Monday while driving between the city and Mina. No persons were injured, but the hog sustained fatal injuries according to local reports.

Western Nebraska agriculture meetings invite farmers and women

Western Nebraska organized agriculture sessions at Alliance December 12 to 14 will include women. A women only series runs Wednesday afternoon Thursday forenoon and Friday forenoon, with general topics for all farm families later. High School Operetta Planned by Sidney Students

Plans are under way for an operetta presented by Sidney high school students under Prof McCormack. The musical sketch The Gypsy Rover, directed by the music department, will open Monday December 10 at the U S A theatre with a cast including Virginia Johnson, Helen Riggs, Russell Ahrens, Keith Adams, Franklin Barger, Marjorie Pettett, Clyde Brewer, Robert Harper, Helen Doran, Eulie Baker, Clayton Jones, Ben Sheckler, and Earl Hammond.

Press dispatches reported Leonard Flo, once of Sidney, on a flight from Walkersville Ontario to Hawaii, was forced to land at Key West Florida when a table he used to stay awake made him violently ill.

Sidney P T A Meeting Highlights Community Program

The Sidney Parent-Teachers Association met at the high school auditorium on Wednesday, November 21. Community singing led by Mrs J W Johnson featured America the Beautiful with plans to make singing a regular program item. Rev Welker gave a talk on obedience to authority as essential to good citizenship, praising military training in schools and colleges for teaching obedience. Franklin Barger and Robert Harper sang solos with accompaniment by Mrs H W Ells and Mrs J W Johnson. The group discussed the Chadron Parent-Teacher convention and adjourned after a business session and social lunch.

Cheyenne Golf Club Expands To 18 Holes At Cheyenne

Heinie Bauman reports Major H C Dagley says Cheyenne country club voted to add nine holes to the nine hole course. The 18 holes will be sand greens and completion is planned by June 1, 1929 with a 36 hole medal play invitation tournament. Sidney golfers are invited for next year. The club seeks match exchanges with Sidney.

Sidney Country Club Hosts Elegant Bridge Dinner

Sidney country club members held a Tuesday evening bridge dinner at the club house with nearly 70 guests. A turkey dinner at seven drew 67 diners at two decorated tables. Fifteen bridge tables followed, with Mrs. G H Doran and Mrs. Guy Brill winning ladies honors, and J Johnson and Mr Brill taking gentlemen honors. The organizing committee included Judge and Mrs J L Tewell, Mr and Mrs J A Bentley, Mr and Mrs Joe Simodynes, Mr and Mrs M G Howard, Mr and Mrs A J Hepner and Mrs Una Wesner.

Auto Skids on Hire Hill Injuring Wheels

Fred Stowe proprietor of the Stowe Variety store met with an accident on Hire hill two miles north of Dalton on the state highway Monday when his car skidded causing damage to two wheels. Nathan Mike was with him. both escaped injury.

West Nebraska growers to supply ten car loads of turkeys for market

The North Platte Valley Co operative Poultry Marketing association will contract ten carloads of dressed turkeys next week. Bids open Tuesday at Mitchell at 1 30 p m. Western Nebraska and eastern Wyoming growers must list turkeys with county agents or chairman H V Anderson by noon Tuesday. Delivery at loading stations to be specified by the successful bidder.

Weyerts Couple Entertain 200 Guests at Anniversary

The Weyerts district home of Mr and Mrs Pred G Bauer hosted about 200 neighbors for their 25th wedding anniversary on November 24. A ball room program featured the Weyerts band and dancing with a 25 candle wedding cake at midnight. Guests admired gifts and decorations while a wedding dinner honored the couple, who have five sons and are highly regarded in the community.

Omaha Promoter Who Duped Farmers Out Again

Denver dispatch reports Hubert M. Michel former Omaha oil man under police search after breaking into his Denver home threatening to kill family and guests. He left Grady sanitarium with a nurse earlier Sunday and caused a scene at 883 South University Boulevard. Police were alerted as he smashed a rear door window and fled, with the family fearing further violence.

Father and Sons Banquet at Gurley Churches

The Father and Son banquet hosted by Gurley Lutheran and Gurley M E. Sunday schools drew 116 attendees. Rev. C V Graham served as toastmaster, with Rev W T Kahse and Rev H Schenck delivering talks. The U S department of agriculture issued a revised edition of the Home Heating Plant bulletin covering requirements for satisfactory heating chimney flues selection and installation of equipment understanding heat and operation weather tight homes humidity ventilation and costs.
