Center urges strict enforcement of federal water limit in Nebraska
The Center for Rural Affairs backs tough enforcement of the 1902 water acreage cap for federal reclamation projects. The eight page letter to the Bureau of Reclamation argues limits prevent land speculation and ensure fair distribution of benefits. It notes less than 2 percent of Nebraska’s 460 000 irrigated acres would be affected, but highlights potential impact on Norden Dam and Holt County where corporate and absentee investments are present.

Heifer Spaying Method Debuts At Colorado State
Two Colorado State University veterinarians Dr Cleon Kimberling and Dr Gary Rupp developed a new nonincisional spaying technique tested on 800 heifers. The method uses a stainless steel tube through the anterior vaginal wall to remove ovaries, with commercial availability anticipated by January 1978. It offers market advantages and reduces estrus, bulling, and misproduction concerns while noting fat deposition and growth considerations.
