More Weather Stations Impossible New
Weather forecasting in the United States could improve by using more telegraphic stations as in Norway, but practical limits hinder expansion. Presently about 200 stations report twice daily to Washington, and adding 4500 more would be required for parity. Charting 200 stations takes about 35 minutes, with 15 more to generalize, so forecasts begin within an hour. increasing by twentyfold would overwhelm charting and generalizing within a reasonable time, even with five district forecast centers.
