Sadat and Begin vow no more wars in historic visit

No Mail Service For Thanksgiving In Cheyenne County

Sidney postmaster Ferris Preble said there will be no mail service on Thanksgiving Day at all Cheyenne County post offices. The lobby remains open for boxholders to pick up mail from the previous day. Full shutdown occurs on six major holidays and limited service on other federal holidays.

Chadron Residents Honored For Hospital Expansion

Rep. Virginia Smith praised Chadron residents for raising funds and supporting a $1 million addition to Chadron Community Hospital. She cited 1927 bond approval and community donations, funded by a $572,000 federal loan and hospital funds. She criticized federal regulation and Medicare.

Nebraskans Die In Separate Traffic Crashes

Two Nebraskans were killed in separate Sunday crashes in Kansas and Nebraska. A 14 year old Kearney boy died east of Shelton on U S 30 as a pickup collided with a truck driven by Dusty L Shifflett 20. Timothy Sevenker 21 Ord was killed in a one vehicle crash 6 miles north of Elba on Nebraska 1. Former Senator Roman Hruska would endorse Rep Charles Thone if Thone runs for governor. State aid payments totaling 121 million have been mailed to 475 Nebraska school districts for October and November

NSGA to testify at Scottsbluff hearing on imported meat labeling

Nebraska Stock Growers Association plans testimony at a Scottsbluff hearing on a bill to require tests and labeling for imported meat and meat foods. Jack Maddux of Wauneta, NSGA president, chairs testimony with other state cattlemen groups and a Nebraska Cow-Belles speaker. The event includes a breakfast hosted by NSGA for congressional and state lawmakers, with the hearing running 10 am to 3 pm at Nebraska Western College theatre.

Restaurants plan to close for Thanksgiving in county

A county restaurant survey shows two Sidney spots open most of Thanksgiving Day while one opens at 5 pm. Eastside Cafe stays open all day, Venus Cafe opens at 5 am serving turkey from 11 am to noon, and Pizza Hut opens at 5 pm. Other eateries close Thursday. A and W Drive-In, Dairy Queen, and Maroon Inn close Friday.

Churches Unite for Union Thanksgiving Service in Sidney

A Union Thanksgiving Service will be held Tuesday at 7 30 pm at First United Methodist Church. Members from Assembly of God Christ Episcopal First Christian Foursquare First United Methodist Holy Trinity Lutheran Light Memorial Presbyterian Nazarene St Patrick's and Wesleyan churches will participate. Ministers from Sidney will lead. Music by First Christian Senior Choir and St Patrick's singers and guitarists. United Methodist Women will serve refreshments afterward. event organized by Cheyenne County Ministerial Association.

Weekend snow and cold grip region with subzero lows

The region saw heavy snow and record lows over the weekend with Potter reporting minus six F and Sidney minus four F. Snow totals ranged up to two inches with moisture around 0.2 inches, and highs fell from the 40s to the teens. Lodgepole and the High Plains lab area also posted subzero nights while roads remained slick and treacherous.
