County commissioners approved a letter directing the treasurer to withhold the county share of a 2.5 mill property tax levy for Western Technical Community College Area until a constitutional challenge to the levy is resolved. Tax funds are from the 1975-76 year. similar action followed last year with refunds issued.
Travel in the Sidney region was sharply curtailed by late morning as southern Panhandle residents felt the impact of a second snowfall this fall. Two inches were reported by Sidney airport with roads becoming packed and hazardous.
The Sidney Elks Lodge 1894 initiated its one thousandth member during Monday ceremonies attended by State Elks Association President Jim Anderson. The class included 20 initiates and the lodge honored all as the thousandth member group amid praise for the ritual. More than 120 Panhandle residents gathered in Morrill County to testify on SB147 and the ETSI coal slurry plan. They warned water supplies could be at risk if coal slurry crosses Nebraska, urging strict controls and director approval before eminent domain could be used.
Panhandle Health Planning Council invites written recommendations for health consumer members on the Health Systems Agency Governing Board. Under Public Law 93-641 and a 71 county area plan, seven of 30 directors will be consumers. Travel reimbursements not guaranteed yet.
Hazardous driving conditions forced the postponement of the Western Technical Community College Board of Governors meeting scheduled for this evening in Scottsbluff. The board will reschedule the session in the near future.
