Landmesser Civil Case Dismissed

A federal district judge dismissed the Landmesser civil case filed in Cheyenne County, Sidney, against Police Chief Sol Willis and multiple officers over a tear gas cartridge injury. The $175,000 suit argued negligence after a discarded cartridge exploded during a disturbance, but the judge ruled city and county governments are not liable for actions of law enforcement, citing officials' justification to quell the disturbance. He noted Mrs. Rhoden stored the cartridge improperly, and the incident likely would have been avoided. He blamed the boys for causing the explosion by striking the cartridge and urged more caution in handling discarded devices. This was the final case of the session.
