Sidney hosts Nebraska Music Educators convention concert

The Nebraska Music Educators convention opens in Sidney November 16 to 18 at the Senior and Junior High Schools. The Wichita Brass Quintet performs at 8:30 p.m. with 831 student musicians preparing for a mass concert Saturday at 7:00 p.m. in the junior high auditorium.

Potter Girl Is State Wheat Queen

Patrice Annette Herboldsheimer, 17, Potter High School senior, crowned 1968 State Wheat Queen at the Nebraska Wyoming Wheat Growers convention banquet. Lester Dunton named Man of the Year for leadership in Scotts Bluff and Goshen County associations. Runners up include Cynthia Sullivan of Wallace and Cynthia McVicker of Gurley. Barbara Long of Grant chosen Miss Congeniality. Numerous past presidents honored. Gov. Norbert Tiemann attended and kissed the queen.

Alfred Ladine named Lion Of The Year at the Sidney Lions Club Ladies Night. John Ward named Lion Chairman Of The Year. Fourteen Lions awarded perfect attendance medals. Reverend John Stayton spoke on The Three Freedoms and Thanksgiving Day. Entertainment included the Madigras Singers and the Old Time Fiddlers. A style show featured men in feminine dress.

Wheat Growers Reelect Davis as President in 1968 Officers

Raymond L. Davis of Potter was reelected president of the Nebraska Wheat Growers Association at the annual convention. The entire slate of officers was reappointed for 1968 with vice presidents Harold Tremain of Sidney Vic Hass of Hemingford Frank Johansen of Bayard and Ervain Frieke of McCook named.

NFO Expanding Deuel Organizes Kimball Is Next

The Cheyenne County Chapter of the National Farmers Organization holds its next regular meeting on Tuesday November 21 at 7 30 p m in the Sidney National Guard Armory. District Three meets Saturday November 25 in the same armory as Cheyenne County NFC members push chartering in Kimball County. Deuel County is chartered with officers elected on November 14.

Former Sidney Man Killed in Train Collision at Crossing

Fredrick Stutheit, 54, of Kearney was killed Wednesday afternoon when his station wagon was struck by a Union Pacific freight train at a crossing in Kearney. His vehicle, dragged about 330 feet, left him alone in the car. Stutheit had formerly lived in Sidney.
