The Telegraph resumes its community ad series with Hardy firms now operating two Sidney stores, one on Tenth Avenue and one on Illinois Street. Established by A. S. Hardy, a prominent Sidney pioneer, the firm carries Frigidaire appliances and RCA radios. Robert Clark, Hardy’s son in law, runs the Illinois Street location. the business dates to 1909 with Hardy’s involvement in power, hotel ventures, and furniture retail.

New Car Award To Be Made Next Week
The American Legion will award a 1946 Packard Clipper at a dance to be held at the city auditorium next Wednesday night November 20. The car, currently in Sidney after display on the streets, was taken to Lisco Monday for Armistice Day celebrations and is being shown in other towns. The Legion expects a large crowd to conclude a veteran led year of activities.

Paroles Granted In Hog Stealing Case
District Judge J. L. Tewell of Sidney placed Charles Thomas, a farmer northeast of Albin, Wyoming, and John Bret of Albin on probation for one year after they pleaded guilty in Harrisburg to hog theft. They were accused of stealing a hog from Cornelius Minken in Banner county. Thomas admitted to butchering the hog then burying the carcass, per county attorney W. H. Kirwin.

The Original Don Cossack Chorus led by Serge Jaroff will tour the United States for a sixteenth season. After selling out major venues from New York to San Francisco the group plans two Metropolitan Opera House openings and a USO tour, with a Sidney stop and performances with the Philadelphia Orchestra and at West Point. Single tickets cost 3.60 dollars and season tickets 5.40 dollars.

Carl J. Hellwig, a Union Pacific blacksmith and Sidney city council member, ends 26 years with the railroad after deferring retirement since 193? to serve in war. He planned to retire at 65 on March 17 1942, built a home shop at 1140 Forrest Street, and contributed equipment such as power hammer and press used in Sidney shop. He learned blacksmithing in Seneca Dakota Territory and married Esther M. Reame in 1909 before moving to Sidney.

OPA In State To Be Skeleton by January
Nebraska district OPA will run a skeleton force of 15 to 20 by January 1, according to district director Edwin Moran. About 290 area employees remain on the payroll now, while 113 state board workers and 25 to 30 district staff have received termination notices with pay stopping December 12. Moran noted another group of about 70 will get notices December 1, and about 60 employees required for rent sugar and price controls will be transferred to other agencies this December. District personnel officer C Glenn Lewis is seeking new positions for terminated staff.

Planes Grounded After Storm at Sidney Air Field
Last week's storm grounded ten planes at the Sidney flying field east of town, including two Stinson four-places, two twin-engine Cessnas, five Aeroncas, and one Cessna 140. Byron Johnson noted inadequate housing and servicing facilities but said the emergency was managed with little trouble. He called for a local airport to serve the growing number of personal flyers. Also, Sidney residents flew to the Lisco Armistice Day celebration, among them Mr. and Mrs Robert Van Gundy, Mr. and Mrs Weyne Ayres, Mr. and Mrs Byron Johnson, Kenneth Jelinek, and Max Osborn. Jelinek, a Cheyenne County farmer, recently bought an Aeronca for personal use, with Johnson and Lee Hagemeister of Potter bringing the plane back from the Aeronca factory.

Nebraska agriculture officials estimate 1946 corn production at 244,156,000 bushels, about 31 bushels per acre, up 17,876,000 from a month earlier. The July 10 outlook had pegged production higher at 267,784,000 bushels, with 1944 a record 329,855,000 and 1945 at 258,304,000. Sorghums are forecast at 682,000 bushels, about 17.5 per acre.
