Sidney Heeleven Wins From Gering in Muddy Battle

Sidney high school football opened with a 12 to 0 away win over Gering in a muddy, waterlogged field. Despite three star players being sidelined for training-rule breaches, coach Green praised a rebuilt team he calls his best yet. Miniken’s 95 yard interception return set the first score, with Davis adding a 40 yard run later. Waite’s 45 yard dash proved controversial as a fourth quarter touchdown was disallowed. The Sidney defense dominated, tackling hard and stifling Gering’s offense. Sidney meets Peets high school next, then Bayard visits Bayard last, as Western state rivals line up. Lineup: Clark center, Brown Vowers guards, Chambers Lally tackles, Baker McMillan ends, Davis full, Waite Mintken halves, Thomas quarterback. Subs Vath Ahrens Kepler Worden.
