Wheat Pasture Will Conserve Soil Moisture
University of Nebraska agronomist J C Swinbank advises pasturing or clipping tall fall wheat to conserve soil moisture and nutrients for next summer’s grain. Four to five inches of growth should remain for winter protection and avoid trampling wet fields. Grazing in spring must stop before joints emerge to prevent head loss and reduced yields.
