Chamber to elect five directors from Sidney on ballot

Ballots for the Cheyenne County Chamber of Commerce board election will select five new directors all from Sidney. Current two-year terms include Lodgepole Potter Dalton Gurley and two Sidney directors Lew Wilson and Frank Partsc whose terms continue.

Sidney Community Band Seeks More Members After Third Rehearsal

More than twenty people attended Tuesday night’s third rehearsal of the Sidney Community Band. Organizers say instrument sections still need players as the group grows from the Nitty Gritty Deutsch Band roots and performs for fun. Rehearsals are held weekly at Sidney Junior High School with members ranging from recent graduates to professionals and retirees.

Water project plans move ahead at session

A South Platte Natural Resources District board meeting advanced several routine items and set in motion actions on the Western Nebraska Technical College water system, irrigation runoff rules, and the Kimball Oliver Dam project. The session also addressed additional matters raised by Kimball County officials.

West charges are reduced in federal case

A federal judge dismissed most conspiracy counts and several fraud charges against Frank R West of American Beef Packers. Remaining charges include mail and wire fraud, diversion of funds, and a five thousand dollar livestock theft count tied to interstate transport. The ruling leaves substantive charges against West, American Beef, and associates.

Board of Adjustment planning in Cheyenne County discussed

Cheyenne County commissioners reviewed forming a Board of Adjustment during a Tuesday meeting. No appointments were made. They compared procedures with Sidney's system led by City Manager Maynard Dils and City Clerk Gordon Tobin. The panel also approved about 43 uncollectible ambulance bills for collection. A request for 5000 dollars to fund a hotline by Sidney Youth Services was noted but not acted on. An appraisal estimate of 27000 dollars from Brandt Appraisal Service was received to reassess county property. The county filed a state report confirming the comprehensive development plan and land use regulations were approved.

Power costs looming for Wheat Belt district growth

Sidney Federal Breaks Ground for New Home

Sidney Federal Savings and Loan Association broke ground Tuesday afternoon for a 4600 square foot single story building at 10th and King Streets. Nienhueser Construction Co handles the project with completion hoped for by next June. The plan includes parking and a drive in facility, landscaping, and a back set from 10th Street. Sidney Federal traces to 1898 and moved to its current Illinois Avenue site about 35 years ago.
