Fleming Seeks Status Check on Vo Tech School in Lincoln

Senator George H. Fleming, in Lincoln for a budget committee meeting, will urge Gov. Morrison to verify obstacles to the early opening of a state trade school at Sioux Army Depot. He questions legality of starting without absolute property title from the Federal government and favors a property-exchange approach used elsewhere.

Panhandle forecast shows fair weather through Wednesday

The Panhandle region is forecast for generally fair conditions tonight and Saturday with lows around 25 to 35 and highs near 60 to 70. The five day outlook calls for temperatures 4 to 10 degrees above normal through Wednesday, with frequent minor day to day changes and highs of 55 to 65 and lows in the 30s, indicating little precipitation.

Charles Glaubitz Dies at 81 Funeral Set Monday

Charles George Glaubitz 73 of Sidney died Thursday at Memorial Hospital after four days there. Funeral services Monday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church officiated by Very Rev. Vincent Pelster, burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Rosary Sunday at Gehrig and Son Funeral Home at 7 p.m. Survivors include wife Georgia, three sons Dale Leo and Robert, five daughters Juanita Cole Margaret Smith Evelyn Dorich Betty Kummer Jay Hoverter, two sisters Anna Conrad Ozro Miller, one brother Albert, 20 grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Low Bid For Sub Station At Wheatbelt District

The Hamlin Electric Co. of Ft. Morgan Colo is the low bid at 217,658 for the Bridgeport Redington substation for Wheatbelt Public Power District. Miner and Miner recommended the bid and suggested alternates from Capital Electric and Engineering Co at 226,326.79 and Cesco Electric Construction Co at 236,181.20. A Wheatbelt spokesman noted Hamlin has done prior work in the area and the project aims to support growing load demands including irrigation pumps and oil field pumping. If approved, work should start in the near future.

LPVAA Sets Up Year's Program for Area Schools

The Lodgepole Valley Activities Association lists the year schedule starting January with a basketball volleyball tournament at Melbeta. A dramatics festival is planned for February 28 at Sunflower, a music contest on March 22 at McGrew, and an April track meet at a to be chosen site. LPVAA head is William Hurley of Sunflower. member schools include Lorenzo, Sunol, Sunflower, McGrew, and Melbeta.

Jurors have been called to report at 9 30 a m Monday according to Clerk Ruby Henkle. A number of jury cases have been set for hearing before District Judge John Kuns.

Troopers Log Busy October in Panhandle Area

Ten Nebraska Safety Patrol troopers in the southern Panhandle logged 32 605 miles and 2 045 hours on highways and county roads in October. They recorded 471 warnings, 225 arrests, 636 violation cards, 24 accidents investigated, 192 motorist assists, 121 obstructions moved, 20 safety programs, 71 hours on vehicle checks, 71 hours on radar, 32 vacation days and 20 hours sick leave. There were six highway fatalities in Cheyenne Devel and Kimball counties, all in the Chappell Big Springs area.

United Fund Campaign Faces Holiday Slump

The United Fund is in a definite slump and risks missing this year’s goal, needing nearly $5,000 more with the holiday rush ahead. Bus iness district drive is the bottleneck as Advance Gifts and residential campaigns are complete. Captains will contact firms not yet contributing to close the campaign. Benny Hochman, general chairman, stresses the fund’s community value.

Lump Settlements Approved Here

District Judge John H. Kins approved two workers compensation settlements in Cheyenne County District Court. W. D. Smith versus Murfin Drilling Co. and Pacific Employers Group secured a 1200 dollar lump sum for injuries on February 9. Mrs. Myrtle Bennett of Cheyenne County Hospital Assn. Inc. and Fidelity & Casualty Co. of New York received 1877 dollars for January 9 injuries while employed in the hospital kitchen.

Driver Injured In Intersection Accident Here

One driver was injured in a two car accident at 2 54 p m Wednesday at 10th and Osage. Catherine Borgens 532 Lucille Lane sustained a sore neck and chest but did not require hospitalization. Borgens was southbound in a 1961 Studebaker preparing to turn left onto Osage when Frank E Smith Westminster Colorado driving a 1966 Dodge struck her car.

Band Appreciation Day drives band fund growth in Sidney

More than 100 Sidney High School band members will work in local businesses tomorrow to raise money for the band trip to the Tournament of Roses in Pasadena. A Conoco Station car wash at 12th and Finois, a citywide dance at the Elks Auditorium, and a Lions Band Auxiliary pancake feed boost the drive, with Montgomery Ward pledging a six percent commission on item purchases of $25 or more. The event lineup features The Dudes, The Penetrations, and The King's Men performing at the adult teen dance, with proceeds aiding the band’s $18,000 goal.

Visitor from San Diego Helps Lions Band Pancake Feed

Mrs Fay Addison of San Diego California visited the Lions Band Auxiliary pancake feed and worked long hours Wednesday night and Thursday morning. She is staying with her niece Mrs C J Cornelius and plans to cheer the Sidney band along Pasadena’s parade route on New Year’s Day.
