Remembering Memorial Day and the fallen heroes
A reflective piece tracing Memorial Day origins from ancient Greek and Roman customs to All Souls and Civil War traditions. It notes John A. Logan's 1868 order designating May 30 for decorating graves, the shift from Decoration Day to Memorial Day, and the 1918 expansion as American soldiers died in France were honored with graves decorated abroad. It closes with a tribute to those who bled and died for the country.
