REA Co-Ops To Form State Group
Members from seven power co operatives in western Nebraska belonging to Tri-State Generation and Transmission Assn met in Sidney on Saturday to form a permanent Nebraska group. The body will meet semi annually with the next session set for October at Grant. Wayne Bond of Lodgepole, one of three Nebraska directors in Tri-State G and T, was named chairman and Clarence Kraft of Alliance was appointed to fill a director vacancy. The group debated emergency operation of rural electricity and cooperative promotion of electric house heating.

Funeral today for William Englert 68
Funeral services were held for William Englert 68 a Lodgepole native who died Friday in Denver Veterans Hospital after weeks of illness. The Rt Rev Msgr Thomas Siudowski officiated at St Patrick s Church with burial in Greenwood Cemetery military graveside rites. Gehrig and Son Funeral Home in charge. Pallbearers were nephews and other relatives. Englert a World War I veteran and longtime businessman never married. Survivors include four sisters and four brothers and several nieces and nephews.

About two thousand people gathered in Bridgeport for outdoor services at the wagon train campsite bound for Oregon. Sidney High Band heads to Portland for Rose Festival
The Sidney High Band will travel to Oregon for the Portland Rose Festival as part of the On To Oregon Cavalcade. A benefit dance netted about 1400 dollars, with total trip funds near 9600 dollars including various events and prior reserves. Band director George Hinn will lead the 105-member group plus supporters, arriving well before the Centennial Wagon Train.

Investiture ceremonies for the Right Reverend Monsignor Thom as Siudowski pastor of St Patrick's Church will begin at 10 am Tuesday with Bishop John L. Paschang investing him as Domestic Prelate. Two Bound Over In Assault Case
Clyde Kent and Layton Maddox were bound over to District Court on assault charges. County Judge C W Smith denied dismissal requests from both defense lawyers. Each man remains free on a $100 bond. Kent faces assault to create bodily injury while Maddox is charged as an accessory to an assault to do great bodily harm, stemming from a beating of L V Hardy of Sidney.

The No 1 R Hawkins yielded 250 feet of oil in a D sand test from 5058 to 5068 feet, with 62 000 cubic feet of gas. Sterling Drilling Co contracted. D sand is nine feet thick.
