The Chamber of Commerce reports Stan Larabee ordered a new service sign for the office lawn. It will be bronze with a masonry base, illuminated nightly, listing participating clubs and meeting details. Donations total $405 toward a $500 purchase. clubs include American Legion, BPW, Jaycees, Kiwanis, Lions, Oddfellows, Rotary, Sidney Educators, Toastmasters, Wheatgrowers, and Prairie Schooners.

Spray Now For Oyster Shell Scale Warns County Agent
County agent Ivan Liljegren warns that spraying oyster shell scales this and the next three weeks with malathion is most effective. Scales attack many shade trees shrubs and perennials and are visible as oyster shaped gray or brown bumps on bark. Female scales about 1/8 inch long, males much smaller, with lilacs, ashes and willows among major hosts in Nebraska.

Guidance on timing malathion sprays after oyster shell scale eggs hatch. Inspect infested plants every 3 to 4 days in late May and early June for crawlers, then apply malathion at 1 quart of 57 percent concentrate per 100 gallons of water (2 teaspoons per gallon for smaller batches). Repeat crawler spray 10 to 14 days later.
