The article notes a favorable outlook for waterfowl across Manitoba Saskatchewan and Alberta with abundant water and nesting cover. County track runners fall short at state meet
Sidney sent three representatives to the state track meet in Kearney over the weekend but failed to place. Utermohlen and Buecker in the 880 ran 2:00.6 and 2:01.9, the fastest yet but not close to the 1:58.9 winning time by Arvie George of Omaha Tech who set a state record at 1:56.5. Ron Fish placed sixth in the 4:42, far from his best 3:37.2, while Bob Allen of Omaha Central won the mile in a state record 4:22.3. Others, including Dick Stahl Nagengast Olson Olson and Greg Kehl Schmitt, also trailed. It was a disappointing day, but local athletes remain champions in our view.
