Wheat growth slowed by cool weather in western Nebraska
Cool damp weather slowed winter wheat growth in western Nebraska this week but the crop appears good and likely to avoid major cutworm damage. Farmers sprayed where worms threatened, moisture remains ample, and heading has begun in southern counties with generally good growth per government crop observers. Topsoil and subsoil moisture are adequate across most areas, corn planting around 65 percent, sorghum about 15 percent, soybeans around 10 percent planted.
