Prevent Leaf Rust in Winter Wheat With Early Fungicide
University of Nebraska Extension plant pathologist Dr. Louis Palmer recommends a single fungicide spray as winter wheat begins to head to guard against leaf rust Puccinia triticina. Use Manzate 200 or Dithane M-45 before flag leaf infection and when lower leaf severity is under 5-10 percent. Aerial application is advised with 26 day grazing restriction, and follow county Extension guidance for rates and equipment.
