Salem Lutheran Church Gurley to mark 50th anniversary
Salem Lutheran Church Gurley will celebrate its 50th anniversary with services on May 22. A sermon at 10 am by Rev Emil Boelling followed by an afternoon talk at 2:30 pm by Rev Henry Nierman, first vice president of the Southern Nebraska District, Missouri Synod. The congregation organized Feb 27, 1910 and the current church was dedicated Nov 21, 1948. Parish history notes previous pastors and relocation due to Sioux Ordnance Depot impacts. dinner served at noon.

Local Guardsmen To Take Part In SOD Open House
Forty five members of Battery B with the Sidney National Guard will join the Armed Forces Day Open House at Sioux Ordnance Depot. They will stage a firepower demonstration including 30 and .50 caliber machine guns and a Bazooka rocket launcher. The unit will display most equipment and three 105 mm howitzers.

McConnell Rites At Dalton This Morning
Funeral services were held at the Dalton Presbyterian Church for Mrs. Clar E. McConnell 61 a Broadwater resident of Morrill County. Burial followed at Oregon Trail Memorial Cemetery with Holececk Funeral Home in charge. She was born March 26 1899 in Broadwater and married Earl McConnell August 26 1925 also in Broadwater. Survivors include her husband three daughters Anna Lou McConnell Clara May Groves Kathryn McConnell two sons Rodney Norman a stepson Robert S. McConnell three grandchildren two brothers Arnold Anderson Arthur Anderson and two sisters Esther Anderson and Mrs Agda Abbot.

Collision knocks gas tank from car near Sidney on US 30
Two drivers escaped injury when their cars collided two miles east of Sidney on U S Highway 30. Eldon M. White 55 of Minatare slowed to turn left when rear ended by Fred G. Snipes 29 of Fort Benning Go. The impact knocked the gas tank from White’s car. Snipes said he saw no turn signal.
