Simon to take sixty day leave from Western Union duties

Co. W. Simon will travel to Salt Lake City today for a sixty days leave of absence from his role as Western Union manager at the Union Pacific depot. He will spend part of the time on a change of work. Mrs. Simon plans to visit a sister in Wyoming and stay through the summer. Death of Well Known Citizen Charles Hoffm eyer

Charles Hoffmeyer, a substantial early settler of the South Divide, died in Denver last Sunday after a long illness. His funeral will be held at the Dunkard church with German Liberian services by Rev. O W Jeungel. Interment will follow in the cemetery ten miles south. A fuller obituary will appear next week.

Daniel F Risbel died May 13 at Illis Colorado from nephritis at age 24. His body was brought to Malcolm Nebraska for burial. He is survived by a wife and both parents. Funeral services were to be held in Malcolm.

W L Stevens died in North Platte last Sunday evening after a long period of medical care. He was among the county’s oldest educators and a progressive citizen. He was father of Herbert Stevens, editor of the Potter Review. The remains were sent east for burial.

A Plan to Solve Farm Labor Question

A preliminary meeting led by A J Clemons of the Farm Labor Bureau was held at the court house to organize locally for matching farmers needing help with workers. A follow up meeting is planned for Monday May 21 in the district court room to advance efforts, with clubs unions bankers and women’s groups urged to cooperate for the world’s food supply.
