Sidney HS claims 1st state meet points with 100 dash champ

SHS 1S champion Kathy Schrock won the 100 yard dash at North Platte. Her teammates Tammy Fish and Beth A Gretch earned Sidney High’s first state meet points, with three Red Raiders advancing to state next weekend in Omaha.

World oil demand may outpace supply by 2000 study says

A MIT backed international energy study warns that world oil demand could outstrip supplies within four to six years if OPEC restricts output as planned. By 2000 shortages may reach 15 to 20 million barrels daily even with conservation. The report urges prompt global energy transition to avert wars over energy.

King Kong the frog wins South Omaha jump contest

In South Omaha a frog contest produced King Kong leaping 6 feet 10 inches to take the win. The Mauler fled before the jump, and both escaping frogs were later returned to a pond near Craig, Nebraska, with Joe Potter named as trainer. Omaha earned an expense paid trip to Yutan for the state frog jumping contest in August, prize $2 and a six pack of beer.

Exon addresses 65 graduates at Western Nebraska Technical College

Governor James Exon delivered the 1977 commencement address to 65 Western Nebraska Technical College graduates. He urged achievement, responsibility, and service to community while stressing ongoing growth and happiness requires effort. Present were Dr Charles Michael WNTC president and Thomas D Brower of Scottsbluff. about 250 attended in the gymnasium.
