Conservation Threats Seen For Farmers
Keith Harmon of the Wildlife Management Institute warned farmers no longer has a farm bloc in Congress and urged better value for dollars in federal conservation programs. He noted 75 percent of set aside land lacks vegetative cover and faces erosion while urging cost sharing for true conservation practices over reclamation. He also criticized urban scrutiny of federal funding for set asides, channelization, irrigation, and river barge projects. The Nebraska herring family fish skipjack alewife and gizzard shad were found in the state.
