Advance notices bill Barton & Bailey's World Celebrated Shows for Friday May 14 offering a large tented spectacle with elephants camels rhinoceros and a grand menagerie. Chamber of Commerce and County officials plan fairground land and an experimental farm and elect a nine member board for the year.
Tonight the Sidney school stages a state contest at Tobin Opera House featuring seven top Nebraska high school orators. Miss Grace Foster of Sidney High School seeks the state laurels, joined by six other district winners. The program runs about twelve minutes per speaker with musical numbers and distinguished guests. Doors open 8:30, general admission 25 cents, reserved seats 50 cents at Sidney Drug Co.
A Denver party of eleven cars and thirty men touring to boost Lincoln Highway travel drifted off course near Big Springs Nebraska and ended up in Sidney. They praised the road to that point but warned of mud and detours west toward Chappell. The Cheyenne Tribune reports Denver interests have a man stationed at Big Springs to divert traffic. local Industrial Club plans an open meeting to devise countermeasures.
The Kimball Observer reports plans to divert traffic to Denver by distributing misleading literature at hotels and motor clubs. Denver Commercial Club logged every turn from Big Springs to Denver to lure travelers off the main Lincoln highway. Local garages at Big Springs, Kimball, and Cheyenne urged action to log routes and place 1,000 copies at Big Springs for distribution to tourists.
Cheyenne County Nebras ka officials met at the Court House on May 4 1915 with all members present. Minutes from April 6 were approved. Warrant for 25 to Anna McFadden for graduation expenses. Tax corrections and cancellations authorized for Lot 8 Block 27 original town Sidney and Clarkson's Addition. Road 256A established from section 11 to section 6 with survey and work directed. Members reviewed and audited general and pauper payments for the county.
John Witters of Scottsbluff, a bank employee, is ill with typhoid at home with his parents Mr and Mrs S P Witters as Scottsbluff reports a fever surge. He has passed the crisis and is improving. Reports vary between twenty five and fifty cases in the city.
The Eleventh District Christian Churches convention met in Sidney on May 4 and 5 with delegates from Chadron Gering Scottsbluff Alliance Sidney and thirty two out of town delegates. Sessions featured world peace discussions bible school and C E matters plus music and a male quartet. Next year’s convention will be in Gering.
Elmer Seyfang of Potter visited Sidney Friday for exams for a section foreman post. Gering delegates Misses Wood Loretta Grace Isamb Mae Kendle and Gardner enjoyed shopping at the Union Pacific shops under chaperone Miss Lorene Wallick of Sidney. The 11th district convention was held at the Christian church the 4th and 5th. W. S. Wilmoth of Dion stored goods in Omaha between trains with John McFadden. Two large fourth district freight engines returned home after repairs in Omaha. The next Local Safety Meeting is scheduled for Monday the 10th. An extra Omaha gang was sent to Sidney Friday to finish grade work near Cheyenne.
Sidney High School plans an inter-class track meet at the fair grounds on Thursday May 13 at 3 pm. No admission will be charged. Prizes include tickets, candy boxes, metal medallions and a silver loving cup for the high school champion. Officials include Dr. Glenn Bliss as referee and starter, with a full slate of judges timers and clerks.
