Farm Methods and Furrow Seeder Use Highlight Nebraska Farming
J F Hanson of the State Historical Group discusses spring plowing, seed bed protection, and moisture retention. Weaver Swenson and others adopt a furrow seeders system for fall wheat sowing, reducing seed bed damage and improving moisture capture. Swenson, planting winter wheat on 6,000 to 8,000 acres, emphasizes early sowing and seed soaking as complementary. A new spring wheat named Humpback, shipped from Sidney, is tested for rust resistance on over 1,500 acres of summer tilled land.
