Voters backed the water works plan 104 to 34, more than three to one, with little electioneering on election day. The Village Board will start work soon and Sidney is expected to have a water works system within months, designed for the public good.
The School Board finds the school building crowded and the basement First Primary room damp and unfit for use. They plan to seek bonds for expansion, noting good district finances and an upcoming plan and estimate before an election to authorize the needed funds.
At a Saturday meeting the board accepted Miss Chase's resignation after her re election as assistant principal and named E. M. Kline as her successor. Kline, a Peru State Normal School graduate this spring, is highly recommended for scholarship and teaching ability. The board also increased Prof. W. R. Pate's salary by 100 dollars for the coming year to 1100, praising his excellent work.
Mrs A M Williams held a Saturday afternoon reception from 3 to 6 to meet Mrs Williams and Mrs Smith of Waterloo Iowa mother and sister of Mr Williams staying several days. Refreshments and musical numbers delighted attendees with assistance from Misses Oberfelder and Gapen. W Pavett of Cheyenne supervised battery manufacture for the Wyoming division block signals all week.
The enlarged Campbell Bros Consolidated Shows come to Sidney on Wednesday May 15 with a bigger parade and a slate of acts described as top tier. Featured performers include The Flying Le Vans Mizuno troupe of Japs Nellie Ryland the world champion bare back rider and Cossack Rough Riders. Trained animals head the animals feature with elephants educated horses and ponies and a menagerie of wild animals. Street parade starts ten o'clock with shows at two and eight p m.
The State Declamatory contest will be held May 10 in Grand Island instead of May 8. Sidney leads Western Nebr district with several entrants in Oratorical and Dramatic classes. North Platte had two winners but did not enter state. District results include Gettysburg Robert Gilmore and others with titles like The New South and The Honor of the Woods. The piece notes a student window break, departures from school, and routine school activity including punctuality, spelling honors, and a springtime library law provision for school districts.

Additional notices include an elk head gift to Attorney Torgerson and bakery promotions at Home Bakery.
The Joint Lodge function in Sidney featured a basket social with music recitations and a Rev James address on Women. Baskets sold quickly under auctioneer J J Parka, netting about 25 dollars for new ball room furniture.
