Army cut worm damage in oats and barley fields
County agent notes army cut worm injuries in oats and barley, mainly at night, with fields previously unaffected. A poisoned bran mash bait mixture is advised, using bran, salt, Paris green or white arsenic, molasses and water, spread thinly over injured spots or entire fields as needed. Worms mature mid April to mid May and pupate, making corn planting inadvisable until after the pupal stage.
