Vegetable Crops To Be Discussed In Western Nebraska
SCOTTSBLUFF The meeting on April 9 at 8 p.m. at the Scotts Bluff County Extension Office will bring agricultural extension agents and farmers together to discuss establishing a vegetable growing and freezing industry in western Nebraska and eastern Wyoming. Carrots, peas and sweet corn thrive there, with soil, water and climate favorable for légumes. A freezing plant could be funded by local capital and supply Midwest processors currently sourcing from California. The frozen food sector has surged in recent years and is expected to grow further.

Wheat Faces Gurley Tots Visit Bank Worm Threat
The Wheat crop across Western Nebraska and Eastern Wyoming faces pale western cutworms this spring, with potential heavy infestation. Experts note winter survival is good, moisture adequate, and more fertilizer used due to nitrogen price drop. Spraying may begin by end of April, and straw treated with Endrin cannot be fed to livestock. Local news also covers a Gurley school field trip to American National Bank for tickets to The Singing Nun and a London Fleet Line underground project proposal with work set for 1972 pending approval.
