Boxer Meets Death In Nebraska Ring
The first Nebraska prize ring death occurred in Omaha as Charles Havlicek aged 19 and known as Terry O Mallory was KO'd by Ray Carter of Sioux City in the fourth round of a six round bout and died twenty minutes later. Havlicek had been knocked down twice before the fatal blow which slammed him to the canvas and paralyzed the respiratory center. The young fighter, in his third pro bout, had fought against his parents wishes.
