The legislature appropriated 200 000 from the state treasury to procure seed and feed for destitute farmers in the spring of 1805. The Central Relief Committee of the county was asked to estimate grain needs and arrange distribution for five hundred families by April 10. Chairman Atkins ordered a requisition for funds to cover seed purchases and planned prompt delivery.

JIENRY reports a windy week and a pleasant day described as May weather. Wheat and rye are growing well. farmers plan more corn, less wheat, and fodder crops as a drought strategy. J. H. Mrs I G Sherwood of Sidney, born Delphi NY April 11 1880, died March 22 1895 at the home of Mr and Mrs Haskell after a lingering illness. A large funeral crowd attended Sunday at 2 pm with Rev N H Miles leading a service including Nearer My God to Thee. She was Sidney’s first school teacher, married Jerry Sherwood in 1858, came to Sidney in 1868, widowed nineteen years ago, and left a legacy of kindness and faith.
