Much Work Planned for Lincoln Highway
Reports from the Lincoln Highway office of TL B. Waldron Nebraska state consul indicate a busy season ahead with counties across the state planning road work independent of the Lincoln Highways Association. Greene County Iowa votes 20000 for county road work including 15000 from general funds and 5000 from a local special fund. Chicago Motor Clubs take charge of 28 miles from Chicago to Lincoln Highway at Chicago Heights to link Chicago with the transcontinental route. Washington and Oregon work on a Cascade Mountains feeder, the Columbia River Highway, in a plan to create the nation’s most scenic roadway but with high costs and a 400 foot viaduct costing 12000. The Columbia River route requires railroad adjustments to fit the road. Nebraska boasts a flat state roadbed and little expense for hills.
