Sidney High School senior Loren Bauman earned second place in Nebraska West District of the Elks Most Valuable Student contest. The Nebraska West first prize went to Bill Fankhauser, with Richard Alcorn of Chadron top in leadership. Bauman receives a $75 award, after $50 county prize. local coordinator Walter Skrdlant organized the event.

One Accident Occurs Tuesday in Sidney
Sidney Police investigated a minor accident Tuesday afternoon at 3 20 p m at 19th and Linden. Teresa L Wills of 523 Lucille Lane stopped for a stop sign when her car was rear ended by Roy P Wittrock of 1931 Newton driving east on Linden. No injuries or charges. Damage estimated at 85 dollars to Wills car and 56 dollars to Wittrock auto.

The Sidney City Council approved a public hearing for April 13 on Robert Decker’s request to rezone properties behind the Deluxe Motel from R-3 to C-1 central business. The planning commission urged area wide rezoning from 23rd to 21st Aves between Clinols and Jackson Streets. The council authorized an agreement with the State Department of Roads for maintenance of Illinois Street with state payment of about $1,000 for the year.

Hearing Set On Sidney Southeast Interchange Change

Death of Mrs. Wilnes reported from Amarillo
Word reached Sidney of the death of Mrs Norman Wilnes 64 who died March 20 in an Amarillo Texas hospital after two years of ill health. Funeral and interment were in Lincoln. The Wilnes arrived in Sidney in 1928, worked for Union Pacific until 1948, then moved to North Platte and retired. They later lived at 1015 Cameo Street Clovis New Mexico. Survived by husband, a son Norman of Lincoln and three grandchildren.

Nellie Bodeman Wynant 89 died early Wednesday at Memorial Rest Home where she had resided six years. Graveside services will be held Friday at Kimball Cemetery with Rev. Max Kors officiating. She was born March 22 1881 at Harcourt Iowa and married E G Wynant in 1898 at Palisade Nebraska. Surviving are son G C Wynant of Laramie daughter Martha Kahl of Sidney six grandchildren nine great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Memorials to Memorial Rest Home have been established.

I 80 Paving Project Begins Near Bushnell
Work on 6.2 miles of Interstate 80 from near the Wyoming line to the Bushnell interchange starts Monday. Missouri Valley Construction Co. of Grand Island won a $1,469,213.25 contract.
