Nebraska Farmers Shift Spring Plantings to Cash Crops
Nebraska farmers plan to switch from food crops to cash crops this spring, with more spring wheat, barley, and potatoes and less corn and oats. The survey by A F.R. Anderson notes a 3 percent rise in total intentions, a 20 percent potato increase, and 4 percent fewer acres of corn and 2 percent fewer oats. barley rises about 10 percent, about 23 000 acres, partly due to low feed supplies in the southwest. Anderson cautions the potato surge could depress prices if yields stay average. The overall shift centers on wheat as the principal cash crop.
