Farmers Move Into Fields As Soil Drys Out
Western Nebraska farmers begin field work as soils dry while eastern areas face weeks before spring farming. Crop observers note delayed planting due to late snow melt, with plowland frozen and runoff heavy in parts. Panhandle farmers work around damp spots awaiting a big push, while wheat and pasture remain dormant in snow free areas. Livestock losses rise as cold weather and scarce hay strain supplies.
