Another Fight on Rates For Stock Transportation
Ground work for a new dispute over freight charges was laid as railroads notified shippers at the Union Stock Yards of a planned increase in rates for stock and cattle. Shippers expect reimbursement based on the stock's real value for death or injury in transit. If the old tariff remains, recovery would be under a stale valuation. to assure full value, shippers must pay higher rates, suggesting a likely legal challenge to the higher tariff.
