Senate Ag Committee Passes Farm Bill Amid Haste

The Senate Agriculture Committee quickly approved a farm bill based on a House measure raising dairy costs by about 495 million dollars next year. It increases government support for dairy and cotton, spans six years, and aims for early Senate action before Easter recess. Nebraska tech colleges get emergency funds in LB537

Western Area receives 470000 as part of a 42 to 0 vote on LB537 to rescue financially troubled Nebraska tech colleges. The bill allocates 5.9 million for replacing lost revenues after a Supreme Court ruling and 26 million for local governments. SUN funding remains tied to SUN’s future budget.

Three Sidney men arrested on Denver warrants

Three Sidney men Steve Lloyd 18 Albert Henke 18 and Daryl Rapp 30 were arrested Thursday by Cheyenne County officers on Denver Colorado warrants. They were arraigned in Cheyenne County Court on four counts each of theft and conspiracy. About $3 000 in merchandise was involved. Sheriff Oren Cox said Sidney authorities act as Denver agents and some merchandise was recovered at arrest. No further details available.

Murder charge filed in Iowa robbery death

An open murder charge was filed today in Polk County against Terrance Duane Hollowell, 26, Toledo, Ohio, in connection with an Aug. 22 Downtown Des Moines robbery where two men were fatally shot. Assistant Police Chief Thomas Teale Jr. said the case was filed in district court.

NU mini courses deadline nears here

The University of Nebraska offers a six session mini course program in Sidney with three courses taught by top professors. For 20 dollars participants can earn college credit if desired, with no prerequisites. Courses cover Food Energy and Pollution, The American Family In Action, and Inflation The Permanent Crisis. Registration points and contact numbers are provided at Sidney High School and the Public Library.

Miss Lenzen Fix awarded scholarships at SHS

Two Sidney High School students, Jobe Fix and Amy Lenzen, were notified by University of Nebraska official Jack Ritchie that they advanced from alternates to one year Regents Scholarships. They join Vance Colling. Charles Borcher is an alternate. Cornhusker Boy's State reps include Jeff Peetz and Mike Deaver. Gell and Kruse hold NHS roles and various activities. Deaver and Peetz are Sidney and St Pat’s students.
