Time Is Arriving For Considering Nitrogen On Winter Wheat Crop
Nebraska farmers should assess nitrogen needs in winter wheat fields now. Light colored soils and eroded or sandy areas show the strongest response, while dark green, thrifty stands may yield little benefit. Moisture in the soil profile, especially in panhandle Nebraskan soils, boosts responses. 40 lb N yielded about 6 bushels per acre on western Nebraskan trials 1961–1968.
